Description

Polypropylene Fibre – Product Detail
Description

Polypropylene Fibre (PP Fibre) is a high-performance synthetic micro-reinforcement material added directly to concrete, mortar, or screed mixes to dramatically improve crack resistance, toughness, and durability. The short, discrete fibres disperse uniformly throughout the mix during batching, forming a three-dimensional micro-reinforcement network that bridges micro-cracks before they can develop and propagate.

Chemically inert, corrosion-free, and non-magnetic, PP fibre is a cleaner and more cost-effective alternative to steel wire mesh for shrinkage crack control — requiring no cutting, laying, or positioning on site.

Key Features
  • Dramatically reduces plastic shrinkage and drying shrinkage cracking in fresh and hardened concrete — the primary cause of surface cracking
  • Creates a 3D micro-reinforcement network throughout the entire concrete matrix — not just at the surface like mesh
  • Improves flexural toughness, impact resistance, and energy absorption capacity of the hardened concrete
  • Enhances fire resistance — fibres melt at ~165°C, creating micro-channels that relieve steam pressure and prevent explosive spalling
  • 100% corrosion-free and chemically inert — unaffected by alkalis, acids, and moisture; no rust staining ever
  • Reduces water permeability and improves waterproofing of the concrete matrix
  • Simply added to the mixer with aggregates — no special equipment, cutting, or positioning required on site
Typical Usage Rates
0.6 kg

Per m³ — Standard

General concrete, slabs, and floor screeds for shrinkage crack control and surface durability improvement.

0.9 kg

Per m³ — Medium

Industrial floors, precast elements, and concrete exposed to moderate impact, abrasion, or thermal cycling.

1.8 kg

Per m³ — High

Tunnels, shotcrete, fire-resistant concrete, and structures requiring enhanced toughness and spalling protection.

Fields of Application
🏗️

Concrete Slabs & Floors

Added to floor slabs, industrial floors, and screeds to control shrinkage cracking and improve surface hardness and abrasion resistance.

🛣️

Roads, Runways & Pavements

Enhances crack resistance and extends pavement life in highways, airport aprons, and concrete road surfaces under heavy traffic loading.

🚇

Tunnels & Shotcrete

Widely used in sprayed concrete (shotcrete) for tunnel linings and rock stabilisation, improving ductility and reducing rebound.

🏠

Precast & Roof Concrete

Reinforces precast panels, roof slabs, and thin concrete elements where crack control and impact resistance are critical during handling and service.

🌊

Water Retaining Structures

Reduces permeability and crack formation in concrete tanks, reservoirs, dams, and drainage channels exposed to continuous water pressure.

🔥

Fire-Resistant Concrete

Melts during fire exposure to create micro-venting channels — preventing explosive spalling and significantly improving structural fire resistance.
